Can One Rule Turn Straight Lines Into Circles?

BEHIND THE WORK

Can one rule turn straight lines into circles?

Circle inversion replaces each distance r from the center with 1/r. Under this transformation, any straight line that misses the center becomes a circle passing through it. One continuous path visits three skewed families of parallel lines, producing the asymmetric circle web in the video.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.

THE MATHEMATICAL RULE

I(x,y)=(x/(x2+y2),y/(x2+y2))I(x,y) = (x/(x²+y²), y/(x²+y²))(x,y)≠(0,0)(x,y) ≠ (0,0)
