240° Later, This Shape Is Still 5.4 Wide

BEHIND THE WORK

This shape is not a circle, yet its width never changes.

The support function h(θ) = R + a sin 3θ uses an odd harmonic. Opposite support distances always add to h(θ) + h(θ + π) = 2R = 5.4. One point draws the resulting constant-width curve, then the completed rotor turns 240 degrees between two fixed parallel walls without changing their gap.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.

THE MATHEMATICAL RULE

h(θ)=R+asin3θh(θ)=R+a sin 3θh(θ)+h(θ+π)=2Rh(θ)+h(θ+π)=2R
