What Happens If a Flat Spiral Folds Into 3D?

BEHIND THE WORK

Can a flat spiral fold itself into a three-dimensional minimal surface?

A point first follows 72 turns in the u–v plane. The Enneper coordinate equations then map every point into x, y, and z, bending the spiral into a self-intersecting saddle with four sweeping wings. The completed form rotates so its full depth remains visible.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
