One Circle Can Turn a Bouncing Ray Into Chaos

BEHIND THE WORK

Can one bouncing ray avoid a circle forever?

A point moves at constant speed inside a square Sinai billiard. Whenever it reaches the outer wall or the circular obstacle, its velocity reflects across the boundary normal: v' = v - 2(v · n)n. The rule is completely deterministic, but repeated collisions build a chaotic web while the forbidden center remains empty.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
