Can Four Fading Waves Weave This?

BEHIND THE WORK

Can four fading waves weave this?

One point combines two damped sine waves for x(t) and two more for y(t). Their frequencies are close, but not identical, so the crossings drift while every exponential term slowly shrinks. From t = 0 to 140, the path folds inward into an asymmetric harmonograph.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.

THE MATHEMATICAL RULE

x(t)=exp(−0.004t)sin(2t)x(t) = exp(−0.004t) sin(2t)+0.72exp(−0.003t)sin(2.99t+0.5) + 0.72 exp(−0.003t) sin(2.99t + 0.5)y(t)=exp(−0.005t)sin(2.01t+π/2)y(t) = exp(−0.005t) sin(2.01t + π/2)+0.72exp(−0.004t)sin(3t+0.2) + 0.72 exp(−0.004t) sin(3t + 0.2)0≤t≤1400 ≤ t ≤ 140
