Can Two Waves Weave an Eye?

BEHIND THE WORK

Can two waves weave an eye?

One point follows x = cos t and y = 0.62 sin t · sin(19t/2). The x-coordinate moves the point left and right. In y, the slower sin t narrows the curve to zero at both ends, forming an eye-shaped envelope, while sin(19t/2) adds nineteen alternating half-waves inside it. Their product turns one continuous closed line into a woven pattern.

Artismathic turns equations into visual art—one function at a time.
